@Davin Ellicson, my understanding from the email I received is that there are about 200 submissions that Harvey et al. decided were of the top level but not finalists and that those 200, or a portion of them, will be shown on Burn throughout the year.

I think the EPF grant from Burn is the only contest I have seen where you can comment on the finalist entries. The Oskar Barnack Award allows you to see all the entries which is interesting, but the commentary on Burn is 'all over the place' as Paul O'Mara says, because people have their strong opinions about work they don't think should have made it to the finalists position. With other contests, there is no way to hear peoples' opinions. I would love to see the 1200 entries that did not make the cut. It is my belief that in any of these contests there is a lot of great work that is not selected for a number of reasons. I am sure there were at least 100 other entries on the level of the finalists' works.

Here's to hoping BURN really takes off in the future with more funding, grants and new emerging work ... it's had a good 6-month opener and to my knowledge is just about the most open, freewheeling forum on photography anywhere. A good reflection of Harvey himself.

And, uhhhm, it's David "Alan" Harvey ... sorry dude.

I have followed this since DAH began Burn. It's a real treat to see these entrants' submissions. The commentary is all over the place but done in a very open fashion.

It's just down right fun and good for the soul to look at new work.

Rob thanks for staying on top of interesting subject matter.
