[...] Frank W. Ockenfels 3 is an awesome Los Angeles Photographer who has been rockin it for years. He is currently having an exhibition at the Clark|Oshin Gallery in L.A. I’m bummed that I missed the opening reception, but definitely plan on making it to see the work soon. I love the dark feel of the images and the way in which he incorporates the picture collages and drawings. There is also a great interview with him at A Photo Editor.
Frank is one of the most amazing photographers in the world. Not only is he a wonderful person, but he is also very giving of his gift. I can only say that he has inspired me to make the most of everything that I do. Keep up the great work and most of all being creative.

I worked at industria for a few months when I first got to NYC. As an employee we were forced to "volunteer" for the Elizabeth Glazer kids for kids fundraiser. As part of the event several (15 or so) well known photographers donated portrait sessions for some of the donors. The session were only supposed to be for around an hour or so but a couple of high maintenance photographers ran waaay over their time limits. Frank and his assistants were waiting on deck for a really long time and finally said to hell with it and set up in the street while the chaos of the event was going on all around him.
He set up a cube in the shade on 12rh st and brought in a couple of vflats to bounce light onto his subjects. He shot on an Olympus half-frame and an ancient 4x5. He seemed completely at ease in th hectic surroundings.
I had a lot of respect for that...

I had the rare privilege of peering into Frank's overstuffed, well-worn and absolutely perfect day journal on a week-long shoot in Mexico a few years ago. Changed my life, man. Seriously.

I have too much respect for the calling to be a photographer, but Frank's work and his approach affected me greatly and positively. I can remember each of the few, brief conversations I had with him and watched what he and his assistants did with amazement.

Anyone who's learned anything from Frank Ockenfels 3 is better for it.

Frank is the best photographer no one knows! I wish he would teach more, I heard nothing but raves about the workshops he taught!

This was an awesome interview. I love the fact that he can shoot anything, anyway. That to an old guy like me is a craftsman understanding his craft.

Great Interview. I love all the old school technique. You never know it from my work now, but I spent 8 years lugging around a 4x5 and it is still my favorite format, that I haven't used in what feels like forever. Maybe it's time to blow the dust off and take some portraits again. Thanks.

That was a great conversation. Always admired Frank's work...it is brave in a sense. Love the journals as well as those by Peter Beard, Walter Iooss and Jonathan Saunders.
