…being unprepared on set will not cause you to be creative, at the best you can copy something that you know works or do something interesting that may not be right for the story… directing is all done before the cameras and crew show up.

There’s so much more prep involved compared to stills not to say photographers don’t work hard but directing an action can be more difficult than capturing a moment especially when there’s more things that can go wrong- dolly/follow focus/extras/live sound. It’s way easier to retouch a photo than a video.

    I use to direct TV commercials and find photography somewhat a breeze comparatively. Less meetings- less time spent editing & presenting. There’s also no music/voice/announcers in stills.
