I often tell young photographers starting out or in school. Shoot sports. Nothing gets you better acquainted with your gear quicker than covering sports. You get batter because you get faster and the gear becomes a tool, an extension.

Yeah, shooting sports is an amazing training to know your gear. Knowing your tools its very important.
